Three docked for denying co-tenant use of toilet
Three persons were, on Thursday, arraigned before an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly conducting themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace in a community.
The three defendants: Abubakar Idris, 45; Oluwatoyin Oyelakin, 43 and Mariam Abubakar, 28, whose addresses were not provided, are standing trial on a three-count charge bordering on conduct likely to cause breach of peace.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Adegeshin Famuyiwa, told the court that the defendants committed the offences between February 2020 and January 2021 at Babatunde Lawal Street, Igbo-Olomu, Owutu area, Agric, Ikorodu.
Ms. Famuyiwa alleged that the defendants conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by locking the toilet, disconnecting water and depriving one Oluwatoyin Oyelakin, a co-tenant, the right to use the conveniences in a shop, which they all shared.
She said that the defendants falsely alleged that the complainant forcefully slapped one of the defendants, thus causing injuries on her ear.
The prosecutor added that defendants also shouted and clapped on top of her voices, calling the complainant ‘Ashewo’ (prostitute) in the community.
According to him, the offences contravene the provisions of Sections 168(D), 93 and 168(D) of Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.
