Tinubu hands over promised certificates of national honours, housing documents to D’Tigress players for 2025 AfroBasket win

Players of Nigeria’s women’s national basketball team, D’Tigress, who won a historic fifth consecutive FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship in Côte d’Ivoire in 2025, have received the certificates for the national honours conferred on them by the Bola Tinubu administration in August.
The National Sports Commission, in a post on X, also stated that housing documents for flats allocated to them in Abuja, as promised by President Bola Tinubu, were handed over to each of the players on Monday during the ongoing FIBA Women’s World Cup Qualifying Tournament in Lyon, France.
The NSC wrote: “Update: The Federal Government has fulfilled it’s promise to Nigeria’s @DtigressNG following their historic AfroBasket triumph in Côte d’Ivoire.
“While in Lyon, France, for the FIBA Women’s World Cup Qualifying Tournament, the African champions received their National Honour certificates and housing documents allocated in Abuja, as previously announced by the President.”
The senior special assistant to the president on media and communications, Stanley Nkwocha, had in a statement on August 4, 2025, said Mr Tinubu, represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, awarded each player and technical crew member the title of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).
According to Mr Nkwocha, Mr Tinubu also directed the allocation of one flat to each player, coach and technical crew member, adding that he had approved a cash award of the naira equivalent of $100,000 to each player and $50,000 equivalent to the coach and each technical team member.
