Türkiye’s installed renewable energy capacity has reached 58,462 megawatts, rising to 11th place in the world ranking.

Turkish minister of energy and natural resources Alparslan Bayraktar said on Wednesday, citing data from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).

“We now rank among the top 11 countries globally in renewable energy and rank fifth in Europe. Türkiye intends to incorporate renewable resources, such as solar, wind, hydraulic, and geothermal, into its energy mix within a certain program,” Mr Bayraktar said in a statement.

The country aims for 5,000 megawatts of newly installed renewable energy capacity every year, including 3,500 megawatts of solar energy and 1,500 megawatts of wind power, he said.

Every kilowatt-hour of renewable electricity means a reduction in the amount of natural gas, coal, and oil the country imports, the minister noted.

According to IRENA, China, the United States, Brazil, India, Germany, Japan, Canada, Spain, France, and Italy occupy the top 10 places in the world’s installed renewable energy capacity ranking.
