Two women in court over alleged brutal assault

Two women, Taiwo John and Rosemary Macley, were on Wednesday arraignment before a Mapo Grade A Customary Court, Ibadan, Oyo State, over alleged assault on a woman.

John, 30, and Macley, 28, are being charged with conspiracy and assault to which they pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Ayodele Ayeni, told the court that the defendants committed the crime at about 8.00a.m on August 1, at Bodija area of Ibadan.

Mr Ayeni further said that the defendants and others, now at large conspired to brutally assault the complainant, Omorolake Akinyemi.

He said that the defendants hit the complainant’s lips and left her seriously injured.

The prosecutor stated that the offences contravened Sections 516 and 355 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II Laws of Oyo State 2000.

The Court’s President, S.M Akintayo, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N100,000, with two reliable sureties in like sum.

Mrs Akintayo said that the sureties must be blood relations of the defendants.

She thereafter adjourned the matter until September 23 for hearing.
