Tylenol manufacturer records drop in share price amid Trump’s comment
U.S. President Donald Trump has said using a pain reliever, Tylenol, during pregnancy can cause autism in babies, Newsweek reported on Tuesday.
Kenvue Inc., the U.S. company that manufactures the medication, saw a significant drop in its share price following Mr Trump’s statement.
Shares fell by 7.5 per cent shortly after the announcement on Monday but rebounded with a six per cent increase in pre-market trading on Tuesday, according to the report.
Kenvue strongly disagreed with the Trump administration’s announcement, stating that there was no connection between acetaminophen, the active ingredient in Tylenol, and autism.
Mr Trump also said on Monday that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) would now inform doctors that taking acetaminophen, commonly known as Tylenol, during pregnancy might significantly raise the risk of autism.
