Legislators in Louisiana on Monday passed a bill calling for the surgical castration of those found guilty of sexually abusing minors under 13. 

The bill, if approved by Governor Jeff Landry, would guarantee that convicted sexual offenders have their testes or ovaries removed surgically after serving their sentences.

The bill’s proponent, Delisha Boyd, stated she was inspired to propose it after learning that the rapist who was allegedly responsible for the molestation of a 12-year-old in May had a prior conviction for abusing a five-year-old.

With the support of fellow Democrat, State Senator Regina Barrow, the duo gathered support of other colleagues including Republicans to advance the bill’s smooth passage that would require convicted child sex offenders to forfeit their reproductive organs no later than one week following the completion of their sentence.

“I said, ‘We’ve got to push it — we have to do something for these kids,” The New York Times cited Ms Boyd as saying.

“We are talking about babies who are being violated by somebody,” the paper further cited Ms Barrow as telling lawmakers back in April. “That is inexcusable.”

Convicted felons who wished to avoid castration may choose to serve longer sentences, which would allow them to stay behind bars longer than their allotted time, according to Ms Boyd who also hoped that the bill, if passed to law, would determine child molesters.

No gender was exempt from the bill as women were marked to lose their ovaries should they be found guilty of child sex crimes.
