It rained goals in the first two games of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final fixtures as Arsenal and Bayern Munich; Real Madrid and Manchester City settled for draws in the first leg of their ties on Tuesday night.

The first leg of the heavyweight clash between Arsenal and Bayern Munich ended in a 2-2 draw at the Emirates Stadium. Bukayo Saka opened the scoring for the Gunners in the 12th minute, striking a low-placed curler from the right side of the box.

However, former Arsenal man Serge Gnabry equalised for Bayern Munich six minutes later from a through pass from Leon Goretzka into the box, which the former calmly put past goalkeeper David Raya.

Two minutes after the half hour mark, Harry Kane put the visitors ahead for the first time in the game from the spot after William Saliba brought down Leroy Sane inside the 18-yard box.

The only goal in the second half came from substitute Leandro Trossard, who struck Gabriel Jesus’ pass into the bottom-left corner of the net, which was enough to even the playing ground going into the second leg of the tie in Germany next week.

Moments before the final whistle, Arsenal players protested for a penalty call after a clash of legs between Manuel Neuer and Saka, but the centre referee did not award a spotkick for the Gunners.

Meanwhile, at the Santiago Bernabeu, the most successful team in the competition, Real Madrid, and defending champions Manchester City settled for an incredible 3-3 draw in Madrid.

The scoring started less than two minutes into the tie when Bernardo Silva put City ahead from a freekick just outside the 18-yard area, but Madrid equalised in the 12th minute after Ruben Diaz deflected Eduardo Camavinga’s shot into his own net.

Two minutes later, Madrid went upfront for the first time in the game courtesy of Rodrygo, who drove a Vinicius Junior pass from his own half into City’s box before putting a slow but accurate shot past Stefan Ortega.

After the break, Phil Foden levelled for City in the 66th minute before Josko Gvardiol restored the visitors’ lead five minutes later, whipping his shot into the far-top corner of the post, giving goalkeeper Andriy Lunin no chance with Jack Grealish making the assist.

Real Madrid managed to get a draw from the game thanks to Federico Valverde’ 79th minute bullet shot to put Vinicius’ cross into the net, giving the Los Blancos a sigh of relief heading into the second leg.
