University of Ibadan matriculates 4,215 students

The University of Ibadan, on Wednesday, matriculated 4,215 students into its undergraduate programme.
The academic ceremony was held at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Kayode Adebowale, charged the newly admitted students to embrace excellence and uphold high moral standards, while also taking advantage of the opportunities available to them.
“Strive for excellence, good character, discipline, leverage opportunities, participate in community service, uphold integrity, avoid plagiarism and exam malpractice,” the vice-chancellor urged.
Analysing the statistics of the university’s admissions for the 2024/2025 academic session, Mr Adebowale remarked that the institution had successfully admitted what he described as “champions of the champions.”
“It is instructive for me to note that almost 22,000 candidates sought admission into the University of Ibadan through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, both at the UTME and direct entry levels from within and outside the country for the 2024/2025 academic session,” he stated.
“11,912 sat for the Post-UTME examination, having fulfilled the 200-point threshold required,” he added.
According to him, “Out of this, 7,017 scored 50 per cent and above. A total of 4,411 were admitted through UTME, while 238 gained admission through the direct entry mode.”
“Only 4,215 were cleared to become our students out of the staggering 22,000 who sought admission,” he affirmed.
Reacting, Akinsola Oluwamayowa, one of the matriculants into the Faculty of Law, expressed joy at the fulfillment of his admission into the university.
“I feel elated because it is the fulfillment of a prophecy that was made a long time ago. I look forward to achieving something that, in retrospect, will make me feel like UI is exactly where I am meant to be,” Akinsola said.
Another student, Oyewande Darasimi, admitted to study History, said she envisions attaining a first-class honours degree.
“My academic and personal goal for the next four years is to graduate with a first-class honours degree. One of the challenges I anticipated was the stress of manual registration, but I’ve been able to overcome some of it,” Darasimi noted.
The University of Ibadan earlier held a two-day orientation programme for newly admitted 2024/2025 undergraduate students.
During the orientation, the institution emphasised the need for character development, academic excellence, campus involvement, and conscious attention to safety.
