A judge abducted by an armed group has been begging his abductors to spare his life.

The Pakistan Taliban released a video of Judge Shakirullah Marwat, who was abducted in the volatile northwestern district of the country on Saturday, pleading with kidnappers for his release.

According to VOA, the one-minute-long video was sent to journalists by the abductors, showing Mr Marwat appeared to be sitting alone in front of a dark fabric, saying the Pakistan Taliban had taken him hostage.

In the clip, he was pleading with the chief justice of Pakistan to agree to unspecified urgent demands from the abductors to “make my release possible.”

Local police said Mr Marwat, who was serving the Waziristan district near the border with Afghanistan, was on his way back from the Dera Ismail Khan district when multiple gunmen kidnapped him alongside his driver.

They also said the armed men set Mr Marwat’s car ablaze before releasing the driver, who subsequently ran to an unknown location.

The driver later told authorities that the men were demanding the release of relatives and imprisoned militants.

Both police and military in the country have launched counterterrorism operations in the area, which resulted in two “terrorists” being killed in the resulting clashes between forces and the militants.
