Accreditation and voting commenced at 8.30 a.m., in all the six wards of Guma I State Constituency in Saturday’s Benue State rerun election.

Speaking with journalists after monitoring the exercise, the state INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof. Sam Egwu, attributed the early takeoff of voting to adequate preparation by the commission.
Egwu said that such was a clear indication that all the processes were strictly followed.

He said that 230 presiding officers were deployed for the election, stressing that all logistics were provided.

“So far, there is no issue for now. Peaceful voting is going on. We did adequate enlightenment and sensitization,” Mr Egwu said.

Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, corroborated Mr Egwu that the exercise was peaceful and seamless, stating that the electorate conducted themselves in an orderly manner.

Mr Adesina said that adequate security personnel were deployed to maintain law and order, adding that voters were told to come out en masse and vote without any fear.
