The police on Wednesday arraigned a 27-year-old woman, Ajirotutu Bosede, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged assault and a breach of the peace.

 The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a two-count charge of assault and a breach of the peace.

 The prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on October 3 at about 12:00 p.m at Matthew St. in Ado-Ekiti.

 He alleged that the defendant poured hot red oil on the body of one Emmanuel Ogunleye and left him with grievous harm that led to injuries on his body, while she also threatened his life.

 Mr Oriyomi also alleged that the defendant conducted herself in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace.

 He said that the victim, a mentally-challenged person, broke into the house of the defendant, while she was away.

 He also said that when the defendant came back, she saw her room open and later learnt that it was opened by the victim.

 Mr Oriyomi said that angrily, she went inside, brought out hot red oil and poured it on the victim.

 According to him, the offence contravened Section 255 and 181(D) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

 The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.

 The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against her.

 The Counsel for the defendant, Adedayo Awe, urged the court to grant his client bail, with a promise that she would not jump bail.

 But the prosecutor opposed the bail application, saying that the victim she assaulted was in a critical condition at the hospital.

 He urged the court to remand the defendant in Ado-Ekiti correctional centre.

 The Chief Magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, after listening to the prosecutor and the investigative police officer, ordered that the defendant be remanded, pending the recovery of the victim in the hospital.

Mr Adeosun, thereafter, adjourned the case to November 21 for mention.
