World Athletics U-20: Imaobong Uko wins Nigeria’s second gold from 400m

Nigeria’s Imabong Nse Uko, 17, achieved her personal best time with 51.55s in the 400m women’s race at the Under 20 World Athletic Championships which is currently taking place in Nairobi, Kenya.
Uko is Nigeria’s first individual champion in 13 years at the World Championships and has continued to be consistent since she first won the 2018 Nigerian Sports Festival (NSF) gold in 400m.
She followed that up with a defense of her 400m crown at the 2021 NSF before representing Nigeria at the 4 x 400m mixed relay at the just concluded 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics.
This is her second gold medal at the World Athletic Championships as she won gold in the mixed 4 x 400m mixed relay on August 18, alongside Johnson Nnamani, Opeyemi Oke and Bamidele Ajayi.
So far, Nigeria has 5 medals in Nairobi with 3 gold medals and 2 bronze medals.
