The National Youth Council of Nigeria, Lagos East chapter, has thrown its weight behind President Bola Tinubu’s reelection bid in 2027.

The council also appealed that the next governor of Lagos State should emerge from Ikorodu.

Asoro Abubakar, vice-chairman of the Lagos East NYCN, disclosed this during a mega rally organised by the All Progressive Congress on Monday in Ikorodu, Lagos State.

Mr Abubakar commended the president for appointing the Ikorodu Division legislators, who have done well across all sectors and have positively touched people’s lives.

He said that the inclusive legislative style of governance remains a core principle that has motivated and encouraged new members to join the APC during the ongoing e-registration in Ikorodu.

He said that Ikorodu deserves to be the next governor of Lagos State due to its consistent performance in delivering the highest number of votes for the party, as recorded during the 2023 general election.

“Various initiatives of the president, such as the student loan, CreditCorp, NiYA and others, have shown that the president has the youth of the country at heart.

“Appointing youths in core ministries and agencies is not only timely but also a long-time dream of young people in the country yearning for inclusion.

“We appreciate the president for giving Ikorodu Division lawmakers like Senator Mukhail Abiru and Representative Babajimi Benson, whose representation in Lagos is exceptional,” he said.

Speaking at the event, Cornelius Ojelabi, the APC chairman in Lagos, urged members to embrace peace, unity and internal cohesion, stressing that only a united party could effectively secure electoral victory.

Mr Ojelabi commended the Ikorodu division for its efforts in ensuring more people registered during the APC e-registration exercise, in accordance with records available to the party’s leadership.

“Members in the Ikorodu division should continue to mobilise grassroots support ahead of the 2027 general election,” he said.

Mr Abiru called on APC members and supporters across the state to remain united and focused on consolidating the party’s gains, stressing that grassroots mobilisation remains critical to electoral success.

He assured residents of Lagos that the ongoing reforms would ultimately reposition Nigeria for sustainable growth and development.

“Ikorodu was known to be a progressive community a long time ago, in line with the president. Together we are endorsing his second term to consolidate on his achievements,” he said.

Mr Benson said that the subsidy removal and reforms initiated by the Tinubu administration have been yielding positive results, citing foreign exchange stability, security, and infrastructural development, among others.

He cited some of his achievements as building 30 schools, constructing hospitals, and providing employment for 200 people in his constituency.

“Today we are celebrating Mr President. The Nigerian economy has improved and been commended by the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund and others,” he said.

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, reaffirmed confidence in Tinubu’s re-election, citing a strong party structure, youth-focused policies, nationwide mobilisation efforts, and greater women’s inclusion.

“We hope that under your leadership, there will be genuine and more intentional support for the amazing women who are very much in need of equality,” she said.
