The Youth African Leaders Initiative Network in Abuja has urged young Nigerians to take an active role in promoting positive change and development in their communities.

The deputy coordinator of the YALI Network Abuja, Teresa Faruna, made the call on Thursday in Abuja.

Ms Faruna said young people had a critical role to play in addressing societal challenges and advancing community development through purposeful actions and civic engagement.

According to her, meaningful change does not always require large-scale interventions, as small individual efforts can collectively make a significant impact on society.

”I want to tell young Nigerians that we should start by doing little things. Whatever impact or change we want can begin with just one move,” she said.

The YALI official urged youths to remain actively involved in issues affecting their communities and contribute their quota toward building a better society.

Ms Faruna stressed the need for young people to move beyond discussions and become more intentional about taking practical steps to address challenges around them. She also commended organisations and individuals working to promote social development and create opportunities for vulnerable groups across the country.

Ms Faruna expressed optimism that increased youth participation in community initiatives would contribute to national development and strengthen social cohesion.

”We should be actively engaged in whatever is happening in our environment and society,” she said.

The Young African Leaders Initiative is the United States’ signature effort to invest in the next generation of African leaders.
