The 82nd Golden Globe Awards, hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, delivered a night of glamour, surprises, and historic wins on Sunday.

The night turned into a night of triumph for two standout films: The Brutalist and Emilia Pérez.

A24’s ‘The Brutalist’, an immigrant epic directed by Brady Corbet, won three prestigious awards, including Best Drama, Best Director for Corbet, and Best Actor for Adrien Brody. 

Brody’s portrayal of László Tóth, a Hungarian architect and Holocaust survivor striving to rebuild his life in post-war America, earned him his first Golden Globe. 

The film, which has yet to see a wide release, captivated voters with its poignant storytelling and striking performances.  

Netflix’s Spanish-language musical ‘Emilia Pérez’  outshone the competition with four wins, including Best Comedy or Musical, Best Supporting Actress for Zoe Saldaña, Best Song for ‘El Mal’, and Best Non-English-Language Film. The musical, which explores themes of trans identity, led the nominations with 10 and delivered on its promise as the night’s big contender.  

The Golden Globe Awards, presented annually by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, are one of the most prestigious honours in the entertainment industry, celebrating excellence in film and television. 

Known for its more relaxed and star-studded atmosphere compared to other awards shows, the ceremony often sets the tone for the rest of the awards season.
