Hollywood actor Kiefer Sutherland has been arrested following an alleged assault and threat against a ride-share driver in Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles Police Department said the actor entered a ride-share vehicle shortly after midnight on Monday and physically assaulted the driver before making criminal threats during the encounter.

According to the police, the incident occurred around 12:15 a.m. at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue in Hollywood and the driver was not injured,

Mr Sutherland was taken into custody and later released after posting a $50,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on February 2.

The actor has previously faced legal troubles over the years. He was arrested on multiple occasions including past incidents related to assault and driving under the influence.

In 2007, he was sentenced to 48 days in jail after pleading no contest to driving under the influence and violating probation.

He was later arrested for assault in 2009, though the charge was eventually dropped, and most recently faced arrest in 2020 following an illegal U-turn in Hollywood.

Mr  Sutherland is a Canadian-born actor best known for his role as counter-terrorism agent Jack Bauer in the hit television series ’24’, a performance that earned him an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe.

The 59-year-old actor has appeared in several notable films, including The Lost Boys, Stand by Me, A Few Good Men and Flatliners and is widely known for his role as Jack Bauer in the television series ‘24.’

He has also continued to work in television and film while also pursuing a music career as a country-rock singer.

He has publicly acknowledged struggling with alcohol earlier in his career and spoken in interviews about efforts to address those issues.

In an interview with The i Paper in 2019, he said “I’m clearly aware that almost every single negative thing that has happened in my life was as the result of drinking – and I didn’t stop. So at some point you have to take responsibility for that, and I do.”
