70 Nigerians graduate from U.S.-sponsored employment programme

No fewer than 70 participants have graduated from the first edition of the Leapworld limited employability training sponsored by the United States African Development Foundation (USADF) and Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF).
The participants took part in a six-week employability project designed to equip them with digital skills that will enable them to contribute to the growth of various organisations in Nigeria.
Speaking to participants on Tuesday at the graduation ceremony held at Ikeja, Funke Medun (Leapworld Limited founder and alumna of the United States Academy for Women Entrepreneurs) said, “For the past six weeks, we have trained over 70 youths in digital marketing and office administration.”
The spokesman for the U.S. Lagos consulate Stephen Ibelli said the U.S. government would support the initiative to make an impact in society, disclosing its
interest in youths and women development.
“Well, 70 per cent of the population of this country is the youth. The employability and development of the youth become very important because you are the next generation that will decide the power of what to come in Africa but need the skills and the training to be able to do that, and that is why the U.S government is involved in the programme,” added Mr Ibelli.
LSETF’s head of employability Christian Kaelin stressed that the agency and the USADF’s projects aimed to create more job opportunities for 3,000 youths in Lagos for the next five years.
He advised the participants to learn more about technology and take advantage of digital technology.
