Armed robbers machete LASU student on her way to school

Juliana Solomon, a 100-level Banking and Finance student of Lagos State University (LASU) was on Monday attacked by armed robbers.
Attacked on her way to sit for an examination, the student was struck in the head by one of the machete-wielding robbers after she attempted to prevent them from robbing her of her cash and other belongings.
A representative of the student union, Ibrahim Braimoh-Igbo, told Peoples Gazette that Ms Solomon was severely matchetted on the head by the robbers at Igboelerin area of Lagos on her way to the university campus in Ojo.
“I got a call yesterday in the morning that she was attacked on her way to school to write an examination. Some guys robbed her as she was dragging with them, they butchered her on the head,” the student union representative said.
He said the student was rescued by another student who then took her to the Federal Medical Centre in Ebute-Metta for treatment.
Mr Braimoh-Igbo said the victim was “responding to treatment”, and that her colleagues were soliciting for financial assistance to help offset her one week treatment at the medical centre.
“When we got the call we had to check on her and contribute some amount of money to her parents… Her parents are financially incapable so we are crowdfunding her treatment,” the student representative further stated.
Olamilekan Solomon, father of the victim, said his daughter was currently out of danger and will be leaving the hospital soon.
“Students from the university visited and assisted us with her medical bills. We have visited her lecturers to inform them about her condition so she won’t fail her examinations,” the victim’s father said.
When contacted, Badmus Uthman, president of Lagos State University Student’s Union (LASUSU), said “The girl is stable for now, but there is no further information.”
Spokesperson for LASU, Adekoya Martins, said the school management has no information about the incident.
Also, Benjamin Hundeyin, the state police spokesperson, said the robbery has not been reported to the police.
