President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration, scheduled for Monday, will be held indoors at the U.S. Capitol Rotunda in Washington, D.C, due to the intense cold weather.

Mr Trump, expressing his concerns for citizens, said on his Truth Social platform that there is an “Arctic blast” engulfing the country, and it is going to endanger the thousands of supporters, law enforcement agents and even horses that will be outside.

According to the New York Times, Alex Lamers, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Weather Prediction Center, said, “The cold air is coming directly from the Arctic and will surge south through Canada and into the U.S. over the weekend and into early next week.”

The event will be projected live in the 20,000-seater Capital One Arena, and Mr Trump will join the viewers after he has been sworn in.

Mr Trump stated that all other events to be held at the Capital Arena would remain as planned, including the victory rally and all three inaugural balls.

According to the BBC, organisers disclosed that about 220,000 tickets will be distributed to watch the event.

The capital arena will not be able to accommodate many citizens and donors planned to watch the inauguration in person, as the venue only admits about 600 people.

This will be the first time in 40 years that a presidential inauguration will be held indoors since Ronald Reagan’s in 1985, which was also moved due to cold weather.
