A Nigerian Yahoo boy extradited to the U.S. in 2024, Imoleayo “Alice Dave” Aina, has been sentenced to six years in prison for offences related to sextortion and the death of an American.

Mr Aina, 27, was sentenced by United States Attorney David Metcalf to “72 months in prison and five years of supervised release, for offences related to the sexual extortion and death of a young man in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania” on October 28, the U.S. Department of Justice said in a statement.

The court also ordered Mr Aina to pay “$3,250 in restitution” to U.S. authorities after he pleaded guilty to “cyberstalking, interstate threat to injure reputation, receiving proceeds of extortion, money laundering conspiracy, and wire fraud” during his trial in May.

Sentencing Mr Aina, U.S. Attorney Metcalf said he “was the driving force behind this sextortion scheme, which left a young man, and then his family, traumatised.”

Citing Mr Aina’s sentencing as an example, Mr Metcalf said U.S. authorities will not tolerate criminals overseas defrauding its citizens.

“The Department of Justice won’t just stand by when innocent victims in the U.S. are harmed by criminal scammers overseas,” Mr Metcalf said, adding, “As this case shows, we can and we will find, prosecute, and hold accountable these insidious sextortionists who terrorise people for money.”

His co-defendant, Samuel Olasunkanmi Abiodun, 26, who pleaded guilty to money laundering conspiracy and wire fraud in December 2024, had been sentenced to five years in prison earlier in June.

Mr Aina’s sentencing comes as another episode of Nigerian Yahoo boys jailed for fraudulent activities involving the U.S. and its citizens.

In August, Joseph Oloyede, the Apetu of Ipetumodu in Osun State, was sentenced to five years in prison in the U.S. over his role in a multimillion-dollar COVID-19 relief fraud.
