My goal is to deliver Rivers, FCT for Tinubu in 2027; not interested in APC campaign DG position: Wike

Mr Wike said that he has no interest in being a member of Mr Tinubu’s presidential campaign council.

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, says his goal is to ensure that President Bola Tinubu wins Rivers State and the FCT in the 2027 general elections.

Mr Wike said this on Saturday during his inspection of the Apo-Karshi Road and the 14-kilometre dualisation of the Buhari-Kubwa Satellite Town access road in Abuja.

The former governor, who stated that he has no interest in being a member of Mr Tinubu’s presidential campaign council, especially since he is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, noted that he would, however, be in Rivers State during the 2027 election to ensure Mr Tinubu wins his state.

Mr Wike said, “Every politics is local. If you cannot deliver the president in your state, how will you say you want an election? If you lose your own state, even if you’re DG, you’ll be ashamed. What’s important is that you are able to deliver those two states.

“So it’s not about being DG. If you’re DG and you don’t win your state, what’s the essence of the DG? I don’t want to lose my state! I will be in my state. I have two states: FCT and my state. We don’t need to be members of the APC Presidential Campaign Council. We are doing our own work.

“When people have asked me about campaign, I say, ‘What is campaign? See the campaign. Campaign is what have you done for the people? What has the government got to show? It’s not about promises; it’s about really putting in action that things indeed will have a positive impact in the lives of the people.”

He recalled that former transport minister, Rotimi Amaechi; former Senate President, Bukola Saraki; former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal; former Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong and a few other politicians previously served as campaign directors-general but failed to deliver their home states to the candidates of their various parties.

He assured that the “Rainbow Coalition”, which supported Mr Tinubu in the 2023 election, would also replicate the same efforts during the 2027 election.
