The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has revamped its power distribution services through the re-introduction of the Meter Asset Provider (MAP) scheme.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, AEDC’s Chief Technical Officer, Oluwafemi Zacchaeus, disclosed the new MAP scheme was aimed at bridging the meter demand gap as 180,000 meters were ready to be deployed.

Mr Zacchaeus said that six vendors had been shortlisted to distribute the 180,000 meters, listing the vendors as Mojec International Company, Protogy Global Services, Turbo Energy, Momas, CIG and Holley.

According to him, the single phase unit and three-phase meter unit would be sold at N63,061.32 and N117,910.69 respectively.

In November 2021, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission directed distribution companies to increase the price of single phase unit from N44,896.17 to N58,661.69 and three-phase unit from N82,855.19 to N109,684.36.

Meanwhile, Donald Etim, Chief Marketing Officer for AEDC assured that the meters would be installed without delay as soon as customers made payment. He gave a time frame of 10 days for installation.

He said “Our customers are assured of a seamless processing of their application for a meter. Customers are also assured of the fact that meters will be installed within 10days of the receipt of their application letter.”

In a similar development, the power distribution company also launched a vending website, where electricity customers can purchase energy without going through middlemen.

“AEDC’s bid to enhance customers’ experience has received a boost with the development of a platform that allows electricity customers to buy energy directly from the company’s website rather than go through a 3rd party.” said Mr Etim.

He further said “With this platform, customers are not only assured of the elimination of extra charges such as service charge, commission and convenience fees, they are also assured of easy reconciliation of their account, 24/7 online real time service, as well as instant value for the energy purchased from any part of its franchise area.”
