Some angry Nigerians have condemned Nigerian Army for the bombing of innocent citizens after it admitted to have mistakenly bombed innocent citizens celebrating Maulud at Tudun Giri village in the Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Sunday.

Citing a military source, Peoples Gazette on Monday reported that at least 126 citizens were killed in the incident, which was confirmed by state authorities.

The incident which saw Nigerian Army trending on X got tweeps talking with many berating the army for repeatedly bombing innocent citizens and describing it as a mistake.

Activist, Rinu Oduala, in a tweet on Tuesday, said “Nigerian Army @HQNigerianArmy has just murdered over 100 Nigerians who were celebrating Maulud in Tudun Biri village, Igabi, Kaduna State and called it a “mistake”.

“Nigerians have been bombed by officers whose taxes they pay, more than 10x since 2017, and still counting. The army chief is yet to resign or be sacked; it’s clearly state-sponsored violence at this point.”

Media aide to former President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, reacting to a video by the Nigerian Defence Headquarters celebrating a Nigerian Army wrestler for “winning a gold medal at the 36th World Military Wrestling Championship,” berated the army for killing innocent citizens.

“You bombed hundreds of innocent people just last night in Kaduna. No single word was posted on this page to commiserate with victims and their families, but now you’re happily posting this nonsense, haba! So are you expecting us to join you in celebration or what? HUNDRED AND TWENTY-SIX WERE MURDERED,” Mr Ahmad said.

Another activist, Aisha Yesufu, said “The Nigerian military mistakes are always on the poor and defenceless.”

Another X user, MrOdanz, said “this is probably the 4th time since 2016 that the Nigerian army is “mistakenly” carrying out airstrikes against Nigerian civilian villages, killing dozens.

“First they’d deny, then they’d accept and apologize, then promise an investigation and life goes on. Onto the next one.”

Sunday’s incident comes as the latest among many other bombing of civilians by the Nigerian Army.

In 2021, Peoples Gazette reported that the Nigerian Air Force Alpha jet, in an ariel attack on armed bandits in Niger State, mistakenly killed wedding guests. A similar bombing claimed over 100 civilians in January 2023.

Before then, the Nigerian Air Force, in an airstrike, killed some Nigerian soldiers, mistaking them for insurgents. A soldier in a video published by The Gazette was seen reporting the incident and called for help.
