Court remands Ondo man for allegedly stabbing co-tenant to death

A middle age-man, Abidemi Oguntuyi, who allegedly stabbed one of his co-tenant to death, has been remanded in police custody in Ondo.
Mr Oguntuyi was docked by the Magistrates’ Court sitting in Akure, the capital city of Ondo, on Monday, on a two-count charge bothering on murder and attempted murder.
The suspect was accused of killing one Abiye Friday, his neighbour, while the deceased was trying to separate the defendant and his brother during a ‘fight’.
The offence was said to have been committed on September 6, 2022, at Ibaka quarters in the Akungba Akoko area of Ondo.
Police prosecutor in the murder case, Simon Wada, said Mr Oguntuyi’s offence contravened sections 319 and 355 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap 37 Vol. II, laws of Ondo state, 2006.
Mr Wada, however, told the court to remand the defendant at the Nigeria Correctional Service in Olokuta, Akure, pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
But the counsel to the defendant, Adeola Kayode, pleaded with the court to adjourn the sitting to enable him to file a counter affidavit to the prosecutor’s written application in determining the murder case.
Ruling on the case, Magistrate Damilola Sekoni, asked the police to remand the defendant in custody, pending the determination on the remand application.
The magistrate adjourned the case till October 7, for a hearing and possible ruling.
