Three British men, Robert Evans Jr, 25, Robert Busby Evans, 49, and Barry Evans, 56, have pleaded guilty to the murder of Sharif Rahman, a 44-year-old Bangladeshi restaurant owner.

The three men, who are also relatives, were arrested by Scotland’s National Police Service in 2024 and had been on trial before Judge Julius Komorowski at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.

At the court, the suspects admitted to killing the victim following an altercation over an unpaid $150 (£79) restaurant bill.

The victim reportedly died a week after the brawl, which occurred in front of The Curry House, an eatery located in the city of Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada, in August 2023.

One of the suspects, Evans Jr, pleaded guilty to manslaughter, while his father, Busby, and uncle, Barry, pleaded guilty as accessories to the crime.

The BBC reported that the three family members allegedly murdered the victim during a holiday trip to Canada.

The Canadian court sentenced the two older men to time already served since their arrest, while the principal offender, Evans Jr, would be sentenced later in July.

Owen Sound’s mayor, Ian Boddy, described the late restaurateur as a “wonderful, warm, calm and gentle” human being whom everybody liked.
