Flutterwave, a major player in the Nigerian fintech industry, has been nominated for this year’s African Banker Awards, which will be presented on May 24 in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, as part of the official agenda of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Annual Meetings.

The Nigerian Fintech giant is nominated alongside other fintech companies from South Africa and Uganda for the Fintech of the year award.

The African Banker Awards, which were established in 2007, have as their main objective to honor the outstanding people and groups responsible for Africa’s financial services industry’s rapid transformation. A formal gala ceremony will be held to reveal the African Banker Awards winners.

According to a release, a large number of female applicants are competing for the coveted title of Banker of the Year.

Additionally, a brand-new award—the AFAWA Bank of the Year award—has been established in collaboration with the African Guarantee Fund to recognize and promote projects targeted at advancing financial inclusion for women on the African continent. A pan-African effort called AFAWA (Affirmative Finance Action for Women in Africa) aims to close the $42 billion financing gap that African women face.

The shortlist of nominees for the African Banker Awards was drawn up by the Awards committee from a record number of submissions filling up ten different categories and represented the entirety of the African continent.
