Islamic New Year: Kano govt declares Wednesday work-free

The governor congratulated Muslims worldwide on the new Islamic year.

The Kano State government on Tuesday declared Wednesday, July 19, work-free to mark the beginning of the 1445 Islamic (Hijrah) new year.

This is contained in a statement by the Commissioner for Information, Baba Dantiye, on behalf of Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf.

The governor congratulated Muslims worldwide on the new Islamic year. He urged the civil servants and other people in the state to pray for peace and tranquillity and the economic development of the state and the country.

He also called on the people to live their lives according to the teachings of Islam.

The governor urged them to practise the virtues of kindness, love, and tolerance, as the Prophet Muhammad exemplified.
