Jos mason sentenced to prison for stealing cooking pot

A magistrate’s court in Jos on Wednesday sentenced a 47-year-old mason, John Chigozie, to six months in prison for stealing a cooking pot.

A magistrate’s court in Jos on Wednesday sentenced a 47-year-old mason, John Chigozie, to six months in prison for stealing a cooking pot.

The magistrate, Irene Pati, who sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to the charge, however, gave him the option of a fine of N30,000.

The prosecutor, Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the case was reported on January 29 at the Agada Biu Police Station by the complainant, Tina Jonathan.

Mr Gokwat said the convict entered the complainant’s house and stole an aluminium pot valued at N15,000 before he was caught.

He said that the offence contravened the Plateau Penal Code Law.
