The Labour Party has called on leaders at all levels to govern with justice, fairness, equity and empathy in line with the teachings of Islam.

The party made the call in a statement on Wednesday by its national publicity secretary, Ken Asogwa, felicitating Nigerians on the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.

According to the party, leaders must rise above selfish interests and work sincerely to alleviate Nigerians’ suffering.

“This is a defining moment for leaders at all levels to rise above selfish interests and work sincerely towards alleviating the suffering of Nigerians,” it stated.

The Labour Party expressed concern over the current economic hardship, insecurity, hunger and growing social and ethno-religious tensions in the country.

It noted that the values of selflessness, humility and devotion associated with the festival were critical to nation-building and good leadership.

The party called on Nigerians to embrace compassion, tolerance and peaceful co-existence as they joined Muslim faithful across the world to celebrate. It said the festival remained a symbol of faith, obedience, sacrifice and total submission to the will of God.

“Beyond the festivities, this holy season calls for deep reflection, renewed spirituality, selflessness, and greater commitment to the service of humanity.

“It is a period to seek the mercy and guidance of Allah, strengthen our bonds with one another, and recommit ourselves to the ideals of love, humility, tolerance and peaceful coexistence,” the party said.

It urged Nigerians to show generosity and understanding, especially toward the less privileged and vulnerable members of society.

The party prayed for peace, prosperity and divine guidance for the country while wishing Muslims and all Nigerians a peaceful and rewarding Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

“May this celebration bring abundant blessings, divine mercy, peace and renewed hope to every home,” the opposition party said.
