Lagos LG chairman urges compliance on reintroduced sanitation exercise

The chairman of Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government, Usman Hamzat, on Tuesday urged residents to comply with the reintroduced monthly environmental sanitation exercise by the Lagos State Government.
This was contained in a statement by the chief press secretary to the council chairman, Salaam Lateef.
Mr Hamzat reiterated the need for shared responsibility for safeguarding community health and safety.
He called on residents, property owners, and stakeholders to embrace environmental cleanliness as a renewed culture for the wellbeing of Ifako-Ijaiye.
He said, “The exercise will commence on Saturday, April 25, between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., with restrictions on vehicular and pedestrian movement.”
Mr Hamzat said residents had been directed to clean their premises, drains, gutters, and frontages and to bag refuse for placement at designated collection points for evacuation.
He said that LAWMA and licensed PSP operators would handle waste disposal, while environmental health officers and enforcement teams were to monitor compliance across the local government area.
Mr Hamzat said the exercise is a public health intervention aimed to prevent hazards and curb communicable diseases within the community.
According to him, a cleaner Ifako-Ijaiye is a healthier Ifako-Ijaiye; hence, residents should take ownership of their surroundings.
The council chairman, however, pledged full support to LAWMA and relevant agencies to ensure successful implementation and sustain a hygienic, flood-free environment.
