#LekkiMassacre: Sanwo-Olu lied, soldiers killed #EndSARS protesters in Lagos: Speaker Gbajabiamila

Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila on Wednesday openly contradicted the claims of Governor Sanwo-Olu on the shootings at Lekki Toll Gate on Tuesday night, saying the fatalities recorded were clear enough.
“It is unavoidably and painfully clear that there were a number of casualties as a result of gunfire at the Lekki Toll Gate,” Mr. Gbajabiamila said in a statement Wednesday evening.
The House Speaker’s comments came hours after Mr. Sanwo-Olu said on television that there were no casualties, ignoring video evidence and Nigerian Army’s attempt to hand over nine bodies to the police.
Mr. Gbajabiamila demanded urgent investigation into the killings, which occurred after soldiers opened fire on citizens singing the national anthem as they protested police brutality.
“Therefore, there needs to be a quick and thorough investigation to determine the facts of what happened last night in Lagos. Our nation urgently needs and the Nigerian people deserve an accounting of the acts that led to the events of last night.
“I urge for calm whilst we get a truer picture of events. In Lagos and everywhere else, too much blood has already been spilled in our country, let there be no more,” Mr. Gbajabiamila said.
The statement came a day after lawmakers at the Senate called on President Muhammadu Buhari to address the nation, which he had failed to do since the protests began over two weeks ago.
