Liverpool set to complete British-record signing of Isak from Newcastle

Liverpool are set to complete the signing of Sweden striker Alexander Isak from Newcastle United in a transfer that sets a new British record. The 25-year-old will join the Reds in a deal worth an initial £125 million, potentially rising to £130 million with add-ons.
This will surpass the £115 million Chelsea paid Brighton for Moisés Caicedo in 2023.
Isak is expected to undergo his medical before finalising a six-year contract at Anfield, ending weeks of tense negotiations between the two clubs.
Liverpool had seen an earlier £110 million bid rejected, but the player made his desire to leave clear, skipping training sessions, pre-season games, and the start of the new season to push through the move.
Newcastle reluctantly sanctioned the sale after bringing in German forward Nick Woltemade as a replacement, easing the blow of losing their talisman.
For Liverpool, the signing represents both ambition and intent. Manager Arne Slot now has one of Europe’s most complete centre-forwards at his disposal, with Isak offering a blend of height, pace, technical flair, and versatility across the front line.
The Swede scored 23 Premier League goals last season and played a starring role in Newcastle’s League Cup triumph, underlining his status as one of the division’s most dangerous attackers.
His arrival caps a remarkable summer of recruitment at Anfield, with Liverpool already investing heavily in talents such as Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, and Giovanni Leoni.
The total outlay will now exceed £290m, as the club looks to build a squad capable of defending their Premier League crown and challenging deep into the Champions League.
For Newcastle, the deal marks the end of Isak’s three-year stay at St James’ Park. Signed from Real Sociedad in 2022, he quickly became a fan favourite and one of the most feared strikers in the league.
While his departure will be sorely felt, Eddie Howe’s side will look to reinvest and restructure their attack around new arrivals before the transfer deadline.
Isak’s journey to the top has been a steady rise from his beginnings at AIK in Sweden, through a spell at Borussia Dortmund and a breakout period at Real Sociedad, to becoming Newcastle’s record signing and now the Premier League’s most expensive player.
At Anfield, he will be tasked with leading the line for a team determined to dominate both domestically and in Europe.
The move is yet to be formally announced by either club, but with all parties in agreement and the medical scheduled, the deal is expected to be made official in the coming hours.
When it is confirmed, it will not only mark a historic moment in Premier League transfer history but also send a clear message that Liverpool intend to set the pace in the title race once again.
