Oyo police begin statewide enforcement of vehicle identification compliance
The police command in Oyo State says it has commenced statewide enforcement of vehicle identification compliance and crime-prevention operations.
According to a statement on Friday by the command’s spokesperson, Ayanlade Olayinka, the enforcement operation targets unmarked vehicles, fake or obscured number plates, and the unauthorised covering of vehicle plates.
“This enforcement action, which commenced yesterday (Thursday), is aimed at ensuring strict compliance with lawful vehicle identification standards and enhancing overall public safety and security architecture within the state,” it said.
The command noted that defaulters would be arrested, adding that vehicles or motorcycles caught during the enforcement operations would be impounded in line with extant laws and operational procedures.
The police spokesperson said the command would also sustain its intermittent stop-and-search operations, intelligence-led patrols and coordinated raids of identified criminal blackspots across the state.
He added that there would also be increased police visibility and the strategic deployment of the command’s personnel within key locations across urban and rural areas in the state.
The command urged members of the public to be calm, law-abiding and cooperative with police personnel during the operations, noting that the enforcement was necessary to promote public safety and security.
