PDP chieftain urges Makinde, Wike to end feud ahead of 2027 elections

A PDP chieftain, David-Kolawole Vaughan, has urged Governor Seyi Makinde and FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, to immediately resolve their lingering political feud.

Mr Vaughan warned that the prolonged crisis could cost the Peoples Democratic Party its remaining membership and weaken its electoral chances ahead of 2027.

Speaking with journalists on Saturday in Lagos, Mr Vaughan said the dispute was damaging the former ruling party’s unity and public standing.

He said the conflict distracted Nigerians from critical governance issues and undermined national development and effective leadership across the country.

“This fight is hurting the PDP’s fortunes, derailing governance and preventing focus on issues that matter to Nigerians,” he said.

Mr Vaughan urged both leaders to remember party loyalists, saying, “They should remember God and the people who suffered and died for PDP at the grassroots.”

He warned that continued infighting would drive away members, adding, “Our party does not need all these. Else, we will lose the remaining membership.”

Mr Vaughan decried verbal attacks between both camps, saying the exchanges were damaging the PDP’s image and eroding public confidence.

He blamed the deepening crisis on divisions within the Board of Trustees and party leadership, allegedly fuelled by personal interests.

“This will never allow peace to reign,” Vaughan said, urging Makinde and Wike to meet and compromise for the party’s survival.

He reminded them that the PDP platform produced their political rise and demanded loyalty, responsibility and sacrifice in return.

“Makinde and Wike must save this party. Nigerians are tired of endless clashes instead of real governance,” he said.

Mr Vaughan stressed that party members were exhausted by the conflict and wanted unity to enable electoral victory.

“We are not interested in this fight again. We want our party to win,” he said.

He warned that aspirants would suffer without a stable platform, noting that independent candidacy was not permitted under Nigerian law.

The Makinde-Wike crisis has factionalised the PDP, triggering defections of serving and former governors and lawmakers to other parties.
