ILO has charged Nigeria and other nations to step up the fight against child labour by supporting greater social justice.
UNESCO Read and Earn Federation has called on President Bola Tinubu to engage genuine education stakeholders to curb the menace of child labour.
“In Nigeria, child labour has become a scourge. Several children find themselves on the streets, forced to make a living,” said Mr Ngige.
“We must realize that if we do not set and sustain the agenda on the dangers of child labour, stakeholders may delay in taking urgent and active steps required to stop it.”
The Organisation warns that children are used as labourers in cocoa farms and gold mines.
The report says this is the first increase in two decades and warns that nine million additional children were at risk as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Hundreds of children roam the environment clumsily kitted in search of chores for livelihood around the sawmill.
