The prime suspect received N20,000 to let the victim’s children hear their mother’s voice via a phone call before paying a ransom.
The Enugu State Police Command has arrested and detained one of its operatives for allegedly shooting and killing a traditional musician on Friday
The state police public relations officer, Daniel Ndukwe, said the stolen phones and their operational vehicle had been recovered.
His corpse has been deposited at the morgue.
Mr Ndukwe said that the masquerader was later identified as one Ugwuoke Ebube aged 22, of Enugu Road, Nsukka.
The command solicited continued support of the residents.
Mr Ndukwe said operatives arrested the 23-year-old suspect at about 5:30 a.m. on April 12
The police spokesperson said the suspect would be arraigned upon conclusion of investigation.
He said that the suspects would be arraigned and prosecuted once investigations are concluded.
