Tinubu picks Gov. Akeredolu to head South-west campaign team

Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has appointed Ondo State governor Rotimi Akeredolu as the South-west coordinator of his campaign.
Mr Tinubu, in a letter he personally signed, said Mr Akeredolu, who also doubles as Chairman of the South-west Governors’ Forum, was picked owing to his political achievements and exemplary leadership.
“By way of this letter, we are pleased to formally convey your appointment as the Zonal Campaign Coordinator (South West) of the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council,” the APC presidential candidate said in the copy of the letter dated August 8.
The development came as political parties prepares for the official kick-off of campaign activities by September 28.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had set the date for commencement of the presidential, National Assembly, governorship, and state assembly campaigns by political parties.
According to INEC, the last day of campaign by political parties for the presidential and National Assembly is midnight of February 23, 2023 while that of governorship and states assembly is midnight of March 9, 2023.
Mr Tinubu, a former Lagos governor said the appointment of Mr Akeredolu was based on his “impressive political achievement” which he has demonstrated as governor of his state and as a party member.
“We are grateful that you have joined our campaign team We know you will do your utmost in this new responsibility as we conduct an effective, message-driven campaign leading us to victory in the 2023 presidential election,” the former Lagos governor said.
The APC presidential candidate had also appointed Kogi governor Yahaya Bello as the National Youth Co-ordinator of the Tinubu-Shettima Presidential Campaign Council.
