Amid growing threats of terrorist attacks in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory, Veritas University has announced the closure of the institution while also postponing scheduled examinations.

The privately owned university is located in the Bwari Area Council of Abuja. The Area Council bordering Kaduna State where bandits have held sway for long, also hosts a campus of the Nigerian Law School, that recently came under Boko Haram’s threat.

Evelyn Obekpa, the spokesperson for Veritas University, said in a statement on Wednesday that all academic activities have been suspended due to the security threat received by the school and security agencies in Abuja.

The school management said 100-level students’ examinations has be suspended indefinitely, and a new date will be announced to the students.

“The Management of Veritas University wishes to notify the general public that the University has successfully completed the 2021/2022 academic session,” the spokesperson said.

“However, due to the current security tension and the directives of the Minister of the FCT for the closure of schools in Abuja, examinations for our 100-level students shall be conducted at a date to be announced later.

“Candidates seeking admission into Veritas University for the 2022/2023 academic session are encouraged to visit the university or the university’s website – www.veritas.edu.ng to obtain admission form. All correspondences may be forwarded to the following emails.”

Founded by the Catholic Church, Veritas University is the latest of educational institution to shut down in Abuja. Federal unity schools and private schools have earlier announced their closures following the directive of the FCT Education Secretariat that schools in Abuja should shut down on July 27.
