Will Smith, David Oyelowo to produce film adaptation of ‘Academy of the Sun’

Hollywood star Will Smith and Nigerian British-American actor and producer David Oyelowo have collaborated with Netflix to create a film based on a yet-to-be-released book ‘Onyeka and the Academy of the Sun’.
According to Variety, Will Smith’s Studio Westbrook and David’s Yoruba Saxon have already partnered Netflix to produce a film adaptation of the book written by British-Nigerian Tolu Okogwu.
The book is a story of a female teenager who possesses extraordinary powers and embarks on a journey to Nigeria in search of her roots but discovers an unimaginable threat.
ABC series scriptwriter Ola Shokunbi has been appointed to write the screenplay.
Netflix has yet to announce a date for the release, but the book is scheduled to be released in the United Kingdom and the United States in June 2022.
