There is no conclusive evidence that the International Monetary Fund MD Kristalina Georgieva is guilty of misconduct allegations in data rigging controversies surrounding the Doing Business Report of 2018, the global financial institution says.

In a statement on Monday, IMF said Ms Georgieva, while as CEO of World Bank, did not interfere with the Doing Business report of 2018 when she was the CEO of World Bank.

The IMF said its review did not conclusively demonstrate that the Managing Director played an improper role regarding the Doing Business 2018 Report.

“Information presented in the course of its review did not conclusively demonstrate that the managing director played an improper role regarding the Doing Business 2018 Report when she was CEO of the World Bank,” IMF noted. “Having looked at all the evidence presented, the executive board reaffirms its full confidence in the managing director’s leadership and ability to continue to effectively carry out her duties. The board trusts in the managing director’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of governance and integrity in the IMF.”

The IMF board reiterated its commitment to supporting Ms Georgieva in maintaining the highest standards of governance and integrity in the IMF’s data, research, and operations.

Ms Georgieva has since September been under pressure after a report by law firm WilmerHale alleged that the IMF boss was directly involved with efforts to improve China’s ranking in the Doing Business Report.

The doing business report is an annual World bank global rating that examines how friendly a nation is to do business in.

In 2018, there were irregularities in the Doing business report as China initially ranked 85 was subsequently moved up to rank 78, the same level as the year before.
