Rave-making musician ‘Bloody Civilian’ comes out as lesbian

Nigerian artiste Emoseh Khamofu, popularly known as Bloody Civilian, has openly identified as a lesbian.
The songwriter announced this on Saturday via a tweet on X, saying, “I’m actually a lesbian. Can’t hide it anymore.”
In Nigeria, individuals engaging in same-sex relationships risk 14 years’ imprisonment after former President Goodluck Jonathan signed the Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Bill into law on January 7, 2014.
The rising star is from Taraba State and was raised in the North, where Sharia law is in effect.
In some Northern states, lesbianism is often seen as a serious offence and can attract public flogging.
Bloody Civilian gained public recognition for her single “I Don’t Like You,” which gained traction on social media.
Her debut single, “How To Kill A Man,” and a collaboration she did with popular artiste Rema “, Wake Up” both featured on Marvel’s 2022 “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” film.
In Nigeria, where lesbianism is often frowned upon, some fans under her post seem to be okay with her announcement.
One user said, “WE ARE NOT SURPRISED.”
Another user said, “Nobody cares! Live your life sis!”
