The former Anambra governor attended the National Integrity Summit in Abuja on Saturday.
“I commend the Labour Party for electing one of the best presidential aspirants from South-East extraction, Peter Obi, as its presidential candidate for the 2023 election,”
Umar Ibrahim, the party’s national secretary made the declaration while addressing reporters on Friday in Kaduna.
“As I have always said, no ambition is worth the life of another. As candidates, you must eschew violence and acts that will encourage any form of bloodletting.”
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has ratified the Labour Party’s leadership structure, recognising officials loyal to presidential candidate Peter Obi.
“I have been in the corridors of government for the past 20 years. We are here on a rescue mission,” the ‘candidate’ said.
“Think and ask if they can offer tomorrow what they could not provide in 7 years,” he said.
The chairman dismissed the notion that the party’s presidential candidate stood no chance of winning the 2023 presidential election.
The police have yet to provide casualty figures or arrest suspects in connection to the attack, but witnesses said over 28 people were killed.
The former Anambra governor was not joined in the suit, but the tussle could imperil the faction that nominated him as its presidential candidate last week.
