The award which has been running for 29 years, aims at recognising the vital role journalists play and the serious risks they face.
The defendants are being charged with riot, disobedience to lawful order issued by the constituted authority and attempted arson.
The committee was constituted by the Kogi government through the office of the Public Defender and Citizens Rights Commission.
“These monetary compensations will help to alleviate your feelings and what you have suffered,” the governor said.
Chairperson of the panel upheld that the petitioner suffered unduly in the hands of police officers.
Panel chairperson Doris Okuwobi said at a session: “We cannot force them to come. We will take on the petitions as if they are not present.
“We also conducted a vaginal swab and discovered that she was sexually assaulted. Her possible cause of death is lack of oxygen,” an autopsy specialist told the panel.
